What is Autism?

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person perceives and interacts with the world. It is characterized by differences in social communication, behavior, and sensory processing. Because autism exists on a spectrum, individuals experience it in unique ways—some may have challenges with verbal communication, while others may excel in specific skills but struggle with social cues. Many autistic individuals have heightened sensitivities to sounds, lights, or textures, while others may seek sensory stimulation. Autism is not a disease but rather a different way of thinking and experiencing life. With understanding, acceptance, and support, autistic individuals can thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Our Story

In 2020, 5th February Callon was born. We chose the name before his birth and spelled his name with an O rather than an E.

I knew it had to be different, little did I know that he will literally be different than
any other child I knew.

Multiple miscarriages which now is in the past

Callon, my miracle boy, was finally here.

Everything Callon did was too cute, too adorable.
Little did I know, the blocking of the ears, and the social distance with people he sees on a daily basis had nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with Autism.

Diagnosed May 2024.

Felt like my perfect world was falling apart.

I kept on telling myself, “No, this can’t be.

They don’t know my son; how can they judge him?

I want a second opinion.

We will convince them otherwise… just wait and see.”

Then one day I realised,

What will this diagnosis change?

I don’t love him any less

I don’t see him different.

This has just shown me that I will do anything to help him.

Then I started focusing on how I can help my son rather than how I can change him to be like a child without Autism.

AND THIS IS WHERE CHANGE STARTED.

AFTER I ACCEPTED IT.

THE DIAGNOSES AND EVERYTHING THAT CAME ALONG WITH IT.

To me, Callon is perfect.

And if I could, I would not change him for the world.

But the world should change for him.

Autism is not a disability; it’s a different ability.
